Lockyer creek: il punto più pericoloso è chiamato Murphy’s Hole
Sembrava essere una domenica pomeriggio come tante altre per la famiglia Davison. Kim Davison, la sua amica Jessie Lou e i tre figli della Davison si erano infatti concessi una pausa rigenerante al torrente Lockyer, che si trova in Australia. La famiglia, originaria del Queensland, aveva deciso di fare un bel bagno nel torrente per scampare alla calura di quel marzo 2014, e immortalò l’evento scattando una foto, questa che vedete qui sotto.
Nessuno di loro, però, poteva immaginare che la fotografia, scattata con una macchina che usava ancora la pellicola, una volta sviluppata in uno studio fotografico, avrebbe immortalato qualcosa di sorprendente e per certi versi terrificante.
La foto del presunto fantasma
Tra i volti felici della famigliola, che si gode la bella giornata di sole immersa nelle acque fresche del torrente, si vede infatti un viso molto simile a quello di una bambina, ma completamente bianco. Un riflesso del sole? Un gioco dell’acqua? Forse, ma quel volto era davvero molto simile a quello di una persona, si distinguevano chiaramente gli occhi e la fronte… per di più, sembrava che il fantasma avesse due corna ai lati della fronte, il che contribuiva a dargli un’aria molto poco rassicurante.
Tuttavia Kim Davison non aveva alcun dubbio che poteva trattarsi di un fantasma, visto che in quel momento nel torrente c’erano solo loro cinque, e per aver conferma della sua teoria postò la foto sul suo profilo facebook. In molti la contattarono, tra cui la pagina Facebook “Toowoomba Ghost Chasers”, che fece un’indagine più approfondita sulla foto, rivelando come il chiarore immortalato nella fotografia apparisse sempre come ombra nera quando si invertono i colori della foto, e in questo caso la luminosità si rivela essere la semplice luce del sole che riflette sull’acqua.
Nulla di soprannaturale, insomma…eppure…
Eppure quel giorno Kim e la sua amica dissero di aver avvertito degli strani fenomeni, mentre si trovavano nel torrente: Kim disse di aver avvertito distintamente la presenza di qualcuno, o qualcosa, che le tirava i piedi, mentre si trovava in procinto di uscire dall’acqua, e la figlia più grande di Kim disse che qualcosa le aveva sfiorato la schiena più volte, mentre si trovavano nel torrente.
L’articolo del Brisbane Courier
L’elemento più sorprendente però, arrivò qualche tempo dopo grazie alle ricerche. Si scoprì, grazie a un ritaglio del giornale Brisbane Courier datato 22 novembre 1913, che in quello stesso punto del torrente era morta annegata una bambina.
“Doreen O’Sullivan, di 13 anni, la figlia maggiore del signor James O’Sullivan, annegò accidentalmente mentre faceva il bagno nel Lockyer Creek venerdì pomeriggio”, si legge nell’articolo.
Trascorse quasi un’ora, prima che il corpo di Doreen venisse recuperato. La ragazzina era annegata in un punto del torrente da sempre considerato pericoloso: noto come Murphy’s Hole, è una fossa profonda oltre 20 piedi, circa 6 metri, che è caratterizzata da correnti molto forti. Doreen venne risucchiata, e morì annegata nel Lockyer.
Che sia quindi il suo fantasma, quello immortalato dalla signora Davison? Sì, con ogni probabilità… lo spirito della piccola annegata, ancora legato al luogo dove trovò la morte.
