Mi sono appena trasferito in un appartamento e ho bisogno di alcuni mobili.
Ho trovato un ragazzo in Craigslist che voleva disperatamente sbarazzarsi delle sue cose a prezzi super economici e quindi sono andato a trovarlo.
Ha venduto le cose in massa per sbarazzarsi di tutte le cose possibili. Ho comprato un piccolo tavolo e lui è venuto con un mucchio di altre cose.
Alcune di esse le ho date via, alcune le ho mantenute.
Inizia così uno dei casi di filmati più controversi in cui mi sia mai imbattuta nel corso delle mie ricerche: tutto inizia nel 2012, quando online si inizia a parlare di uno strano video. “The Bitterroot Footage“, questo il nome della pellicola, venne scoperto da uno studente di un’università di New York chiamato Chad, che ha acquistato una strana collezione di cose da un ragazzo chiamato Chris, trovato su Craigslist. Tra le altre cose, ha preso una scatola di legno chiusa che, una volta aperta con un cacciavite, ha rivelato un mucchio di vecchie fotografie tutte con la parola “bitterroot” scritto a mano sul retro, nonché una bobina di un film 8mm.
Il film era piuttosto danneggiato, perciò Ciad l’ha inizialmente tenuto in disparte sulla mensola in camera da letto, come decorazione, ma il contenuto di quella pellicola era un tarlo, per Ciad, che grazie a Dario, un amico esperto di cinema e fotografia, è riuscito a sistemare la pellicola e a proittarlo grazie a uno speciale proiettore acquistato su Ebay. Ciò che i due ragazzi hanno trovato era decisamente inquietante.
Il video, in bianco e nero, è silenzioso, o quasi. L’unico suono che si sente è il rumore del proiettore.
Il video parte con una serie di riprese di un bosco, e al minuto 0:46 ecco che appare per la prima volta un antico edificio in rovina. Poco dopo, sulla scena appare un uomo avvolto in un lungo mantello, che cammina lentamente verso l’edificio. Dal minuto 1:14 la scena si sposta all’interno dell’edificio (o meglio, presumibilmente è l’interno dell’edificio visto prima, ma non possiamo saperlo con certezza). Ci sono diversi fotogrammi che riprendono l’interno dell’edificio, tra finestre, inferriate, porte, mura… poi ricompare l’uomo vestito col mantello, prima passa davanti alla porta, poi, in una ripresa che mostra l’interno di una stanza, forse una cucina (si vede una tavolo, una sedia), si vede l’uomo seduto proprio su quella sedia, intendo a rimestare qualcosa in una pentola posta sul tavolo davanti a lui.
Ai suoi piedi c’è un grosso involucro, sembra un lenzuolo legato con una corda, e a un certo punto quel pacco si muove.
Già questo sarebbe abbastanza per spegnere il video e darsi alla fuga, invece siamo quasi ipnotizzati nel seguire l’uomo che si alza e se ne va, e seguiamo la fotocamera che entra più in profondità nella stanza. Vengono mostrati dei contenitori, molto simili alle incubatrici per neonati, e dentro c’è quello che potrebbe essere un bambino morto. Da lì, il film ancora una volta il video segue l’uomo nei boschi, che cammina caracollando, ondeggiando, e lo si vede mentre getta un sacco più piccolo in un fosso poco profondo e poi si allontana. La telecamera si avvicina alla borsa, e il cameraman prima la colpisce con un bastone, quindi lo apre, rivelando quella che sembra proprio essere una testa umana tagliata…
Il filmato ha provocato una grande diatriba online. Moltissime persone hanno sollevato una serie di domande riguardo all’autenticità e alla veridicità della storia di Chad… Numerosi appassionati hanno anche sottolineato che l’amico dei tempi di scuola di Chad, Dario, potrebbe essere un onaggio all’autore di horror italiano Dario Argento, che sappiamo essere noto per i suoi inquietanti film girati in prima persona. Così, la maggior parte delle persone hanno pensato che fosse una sorta di marketing virale per un prossimo film horror, qualcosa tipo Rec, oppure TheBlair Witch Project o ancora The Poughkeepsie Tapes.
Il problema è che se davvero il Bitterroot Footage è un prodotto per lanciare un film horror, nessuna pellicola è mai apparsa, nonostante siano passati ormai 5 anni dal 2012, quando il filmato iniziò a girare…
